Apocalypse Now in 39 words.

Slow. Long. Boring. Well crafted in terms of direction and cinematography. Unimpressed with Brando. Long. Best performances were Robert Duvall and Dennis Hopper. Very nice visuals. Ultimately unsatisfying. Slow. Overrated.

Did I mention slow and long?

In my opinion.

UPDATE: I'm also adding the word "forgettable", because it has not been more than an hour since the movie ended, and I can hardly remember a thing.

  1. 39 words was all this movie was worth to me. I understand that it is revered as one of the best films ever made and all that, but it just did not do it for me.

  2. You have a point but I think you go too far. There's a lot to like in this film. In fact, it's like a primer for how to write a "meaningful" script, from the fact that he starts the film upside down and ends it right side up to the prawns they're eating, Clean saying "I'm good" immediately after hosing down an innocent family with is machine gun.

I used to show it in the class, not becuase I loved it so much, but because it was eminently teachable.

  3. When I began watching it I had every intention of paying attention to what the character's said and how it was meaningful because that's all I ever heard about this film. I admit that the part I did enjoy about it was the technical aspects (direction, cinematography), but I could nto focus on the writing. The reason being I became so bored after a half an hour or so that just getting through the rest of the film was more of a chore than a choice. For instance, I did notice the movie begins being upside down and finished right side up, but I brushed it from my mind immediately because I was just glad it was over. Thank you for lending it to me, for I have always wanted to see it. However, I must dissent from the accepted view of this film. I can see the reasons this film is so iconic and important, I just don't agree with them.

  4. Well one day I was just passing through the HBo channels and i had like three hours to kill so I stumbled upon the film, I was like ehh, w.e. so I started watching it and then I couldnt get up. I just drawed me in, I think its a really well crafted film, I love the psychological side of the film as well as the shots, and visuals. Not sure about Brando, but still a great film non the less.
