Hey everyone, I started a little poll that can be seen in the top right corner of the page. Cast your vote for your favorite film that we have watched so far! If you would like to give an explanation as to why you chose the movie you did, you may leave a comment on this post. Can't wait for some feedback!
I voted! I wonder what I voted for? Nice job setting up the poll, Nick, I was thinking about doing something like that but I didn't know how
ReplyDeleteThis may be premature, but it's very nice of you to take the time to do this. Years ago, I would poll the students at the end of the semester. The winner was always "The 7th Seal," much to my astonishment, considering it is a slow-moving psychological drama in lback and white in Swedish, with subtitles. Go figure. As far as your poll goes, I'll vote for Runaway Train, but each of the films speaks to me in a very special way. Paul's face when he realizes at last that Kat is dead. Joe holding the dead Ratso, almost defiantly. Kane, telling Susan that she won't have to fight 'em anymore.
ReplyDeleteYour original salutation, Nick, "hi everyone," probably brought forth in your mind a number closer to 35 than 5. Welcome to my world, a place inhabited, even at its very best, by very few.
ReplyDeleteHaha, well those other 30 people have another 5 days to vote. Hopefully I'll get a good result after that. It won't discourage me from doing more polls after this. I'm already trying to think of a new topic for the next one!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if people seem to be voting for Runaway Train because it was the last film they saw and it is the freshest in their mind or because it was truly their favorite. It will be interesting to see as the perennial favorite, The Seventh Seal, will be completed in the next few days.
ReplyDeleteThen we will have to re-vote since I was not given the choice of Seventh Seal. Unforgiven is coming up too, and that's one hell of a film. Meanwhile, a combination of Spring and graduating seniors shall conspire to destroy well, EVERYTHING, so I'll just do my best to keep a smile on my face.
ReplyDeleteI was planning on having people vote on 4 movies at a time, and then at the end take all the movies that won and put those in a poll to determine the favorite.
ReplyDeleteWell I'm torn on two films: All Quiet on the Western Front and Citizen Kane, which are both great in my opinion and I have seen both films twice. I guess I'll have to go with Citizen Kane because in its simpliticty, there is so much there, both in theme and cinematically.
ReplyDeleteNick, here are a few titles you may want to check out if you have Netflix.
ReplyDelete1. The Stunt Man. I mentioned it before. I was curious to see if it appealed to you.
2. Stalingrad. The best war film ever made.
3. Birdman of Alcatraz. One of Lancaster's best. Highly watchable
4. The Bedford Incident. This is one hell of a film. Edge of your seat stuff.
5. Patton. You probably saw this one.
6. Manchurian Candidate. ditto. The original iwth Frank Sinatra
7. Shadow of a doubt. That's a mystery. You said you wanted a mystery.
8. Trouble in paradise. Early Lubitsch. A must see director
9. The red, white, blue trilogy
10. In a Lonely Place. A cool mystery noir with Bogart.
Thanks for the suggestions Mr. Bennett! I'll probably rent Shadow of a Doubt because I am in the mood for a mystery, and I only have time for 1 more rental after Touch of Evil. Actually, I may take off Touch of Evil and put on Stalingrad. I wish I had more room for The Stuntman.
ReplyDeleteI'm waiting to see the rest of the poll. Although I think it will be close between Runaway Train and Citizen Kane
ReplyDeleteVery nice suggestions, Mr. Bennett! I'll have to check some of the out soon. I was looking forward to seeing the Red, White, and Blue trilogy and Stalingrad. Well I guess I'll see what I can find.
